ABOUT US

We are Alex & Gabriella Simon: artists, musicians and writers who are passionate about nurturing creativity and strengthening communities through the creation of art.

Gabriella Sonabend Simon was born in London and studied painting at Slade School of Fine Art. Whilst studying, she began curating exhibitions in empty buildings and after graduating founded The Koppel Project (studios & cultural centres in London) and co-founded Proposition Studios (studios & galleries focused on connecting artists with ecologists & land workers). In between projects, she participated in artist residencies in India, Italy, Israel, Colombia, and Peru, making films, writing theatre pieces and stories, and producing music.

In her curation work Gabriella continued to put on exhibitions in galleries and museums, working with over 300 artists in 10 years. Notable shows include ‘Terra Nexus’ and ‘Peace At The Table’ at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Bogota. From 2019-2021 Gabriella curated an Arts Council of England funded series of music nights, bringing together avant-garde performances from eclectic artists in venues across London.

Gabriella now runs the label side of Casa Animalia and continues to write fiction and create visual artwork.

Alex Simon grew up in California and studied music at UC Berkeley, earning a degree that encompassed performance, composition, and ethnomusicology. After working in the digital distribution side of the music industry for a couple years, Alex charted a path into his own artistry, leading him to live in New Mexico to be immersed in the landscape that has inspired him more than anywhere in the world.

When working with clients and collaborating artists, Alex seeks to get to the core of an artist’s inner landscape, bringing their most complete and compelling story to the surface.

Her devotion to the creative field is a process of mirroring and magnifying the light of who she sits with. Gabriella's first hand understanding of the artist's path is reflected into the way she holds others in their process. • I worked with Gabriella on Terra Nexus, an immersive installation she curated. This project was a turning point in my practice - Gabriella's leading passion for ecology and the inspiring residency she curated, helped me to develop a new and deeper identity of my own work. Gabriella was intuitive to my process and was supportive throughout, talking through ideas and helping me to develop an evolving installation during what was a difficult time to be making such ambitious work in lockdown.
